Nordic Walking & Health
What Nordic Walking is, how it differs from regular walking, who it is for, and how it relates to heart health, metabolic health, joints and back, balance, mental health, and healthy aging.
NWANA Health is the health home of the Nordic Walking Association of North America. It exists for one reason: Nordic Walking is one of the most complete forms of human movement, and its role in health, rehabilitation, and long, active life deserves a serious, honest home.
Nordic Walking is walking with specially designed poles, using a technique that brings the arms, shoulders, back, and core into the work of walking. It began as summer training for cross-country skiers in Finland and has grown into a worldwide activity: gentle enough to be used inside rehabilitation programs, and demanding enough to have its own World Championships.
This site explains what Nordic Walking is, what published research actually supports, how it is used in rehabilitation and medicine, and how to begin. Where the evidence is strong, we say so. Where it is early or mixed, we say that too.
What Nordic Walking is, how it differs from regular walking, who it is for, and how it relates to heart health, metabolic health, joints and back, balance, mental health, and healthy aging.
How Nordic Walking is used inside rehabilitation: cardiac programs, recovery after surgery, Parkinson's and other neurological conditions, COPD, cancer recovery support, and chronic pain.
What published studies and reviews actually found, cited openly, and NWANA's own research direction inside the Charity Challenge, where participation and consistency can be studied over time.
For professional and high-level athletes whose careers in their own sport ended through injury: Nordic Walking offers real training load, real technique, and a real competitive pathway, up to World Championships.
The right poles, your first walks, the basics of correct technique, learning properly through the NWANA Academy, finding a group, and joining a challenge.
Who runs this site, how NWANA Health fits into the Nordic Walking Association of North America, and how our editorial and evidence standards work.
NWANA is a nonprofit federation, not a clinic and not a medical practice. NWANA Health does not diagnose, treat, or promise outcomes. What it does is teach: the technique, the science as it stands, and the practical paths into the activity, through the NWANA Academy, local NW Groups, and the NWANA Charity Challenge.
